On June 25, Rep. Timothy Johnson (R-Ill.) signed the Discharge Petition for the SAVE Act. This brings the total number of discharge petition signers to 190, just 28 shy of the 218 needed to force a floor vote on the bill. Rep. Johnson has a career "B" grade from Americans for Better Immigration.
On June 6, President Bush signed an executive order requiring Federal contractors to use E-Verify, a free, Internet-based system that enables employers to check an employee’s eligibility to work in the U.S. within seconds.
On June 5th, Rep. Bill Young (R-Fl.) cosponsored the SAVE Act. This brings the number of cosponsors to 165. Rep. Young has a career B immigration grade.
The American Legion has launched a nationwide education initiative to alert the nation to the dangers posed by unhampered illegal immigration and the government's unwillingness to address the issue.
The House Democratic leadership continued its assault on immigration enforcement at a May 6 House Ways & Means Subcommittee hearing on
the SAVE Act (H.R. 4088).
Last week two versions of Rep. Heath Shuler’s (D-N.C.) SAVE Act (Secure America with Verification Enforcement [H.R. 4088]) were introduced in the Senate by Senators Mark Pryor (D-Ark.), Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and David Vitter (R-La.). The Pryor/Landrieu bill is S. 2368 and Sen. Vitter's bill is S.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Ia.) recently introduced legislation (S. 3093) that would reauthorize the E-Verify program. Grassley's legislation also makes several improvements to the program.

The U.S. Business and Industry Council today endorsed the SAVE Act, which is sponsored in the House by Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) and in the Senate by Sens. David Vitter (R-La.) and Mark Pryor (D-Ark.). The following are excerpts from the Council’s endorsement letter:
